Curriculum
Korumburra Secondary College offers a varied and challenging curriculum designed to
cater for differing student needs. This curriculum aims to focus student learning on the learning process itself encouraging students to reflect on learning how to learn, while enabling students to develop knowledge and skills as an independent person and as a team member.

Our curriculum encompasses the Victorian curriculum which is currently set out in three linked main strands or areas:

Physical, Personal and Social Learning:
Students learn about themselves and their place in society. They learn how to stay healthy and active. Students develop skills in building social relationships and working with others. They take responsibility for their learning and learn about their rights and responsibilities as global citizens.

Curriculum Mapping
The Victorian Curriculum framework acknowledges the global changes and directions that will shape the future of today’s young people by delivering a curriculum that develops the whole person. The curriculum is a common set of knowledge and skills required by students for lifelong learning and social development.
Our teachers work in collaborative teams to document a Scope and Sequence for every learning area and detailed Unit Plans so that we have a Guaranteed and Viable Curriculum, with Common Assessment Tasks and consistency across classes at each Year level. We use a school wide instructional model that provides students with an engaging hook into new learning, opportunity to build their learning with support, and then apply their new skills independently.
Our learning program is mapped to the VCE-VM pathways and from Year 7 – 10 we provide the foundational knowledge and skills for students to have a successful pathway through school with a whole school focus on developing literacy skills. Our next level of work is to develop a whole school focus on numeracy skills.
We have a clear assessment schedule for all Year levels, and implement a practice exam program twice a Year from Year 8 – 10 to support students to become familiar with exam routines and lessen exam anxiety for their senior years of schooling.
Electives
We offer a variety of electives starting in Year 7 with a “taster program” where students experience an introduction to Cooking, STEAM, Woodwork/Metalwork and Performing Arts.
At Year 8 students are offered choices in electives and by Year 9/10 there is a large variety of elective subjects to choose from, as students start to make choices around their pathways and interests.
For more information about the subjects on offer at each Year Level, please refer to our handbooks:
